“I Have a Dream” – The Heldenbergen Choir fulfills a dream for itself and its audience with two Abba concerts.

Despite several problems, the Heldenbergen Choir's “Abba – A Best of” project was ultimately a resounding success.

First, there was a change of choir director in the middle of rehearsals for the concerts in September. The former choir director, Aylin Günel, had to leave the association due to career changes. However, rehearsals continued seamlessly with the new, highly committed choir director Pascal Franke. When the pianist fell ill on the eve of the dress rehearsal, the concerts were once again in jeopardy. By a stroke of luck, a pianist was found just in time for the dress rehearsal. With Utku Asan, a well-known pianist from Frankfurt, the association was finally able to save the project.

The concerts on November 7 at St. Andrew's Church in Schöneck-Büdesheim and on November 9 at the Catholic Church in Nidderau-Heldenbergen took place in churches that were “packed to the rafters.” After a welcome by First Chair Bettina Jost-Döring, Second Chair Ulrike Buxmann skillfully guided the audience through the program. There were many interesting facts to learn about the individual songs. The choir sang in both German and English. At the end, the audience once again expressed their gratitude with a standing ovation. It didn't take long for the calls for encores to begin. The choir sang the final encore, “Thank You for the Music,” together with the audience.

Another Abba concert is already being planned for spring 2026 in the local area. And in February 2026, the choir will begin its new project phase for 2026. However, the project is still in the planning stage at present.

Interested singers are already invited to join in the new project. More information will be available shortly on the homepage at https://www.chorgemeinschaft-heldenbergen.de/.

The choir rehearses every Monday between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The rehearsal room is located in the Hessischer Hof at Friedberger Straße 27 in Nidderau-Heldenbergen. For more information, please also use our email: kontakt@chorgemeinschaft-heldenbergen.de.

Change of choir director on 8 September 2025

Aylin Günel has been accompanying the Heldenbergen choir as choir director since November 2022. Since then, several successful projects have been carried out. These include the concerts ‘Music Through the Ages’ and ‘Tribute to Udo Jürgens’. To our great regret, Aylin Günel had to step down as choir director on 1 September of this year for professional reasons. The Heldenbergen Choir Association is losing a valued, open-minded and dedicated choir director. On the evening of 2 September, she was given a fitting send-off during choir practice. The choir expressed its heartfelt thanks for her support over the past three years.

Thanks to Aylin Günel's help, a suitable replacement was found very quickly. After conducting his first rehearsal, the new choir director Pascal Franke signed his contract and began choir rehearsals on Monday, 8 September. The artistic direction of the choir is now in the hands of Pascal Franke. The school musician studied school music at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and works full-time as a teacher at the Taunusgymnasium Königstein. In addition to his work at the school, he is responsible for conducting the choir and brings his pedagogical and artistic experience to bear in the ongoing rehearsal work and concert planning.

Rehearsals for the ABBA concerts are continuing without interruption.
